Owner, Music TherapistHello! My name is Elisabeth Joy and I am the founder of The Joy of Music. The Joy of Music was born in 2005 out of my love for music, a dedication to people, and a zeal for the relationship between the two.
After receiving my bachelor's degree from The University of Iowa, I completed my internship at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics working in both behavioral health and medical units. Over the years I have completed specialized training in Hospice & Palliative Care music therapy and Neurologic Music Therapy, and in 2025 I will complete my Masters in Business Administration. I am blessed beyond measure to provide a service that is just as inspiring and rewarding to me as it is to my clients! What joy it is to be a music therapist! Thank you for stopping by! Please enjoy reading a bit about our incredible team of talented and dedicated professionals below. With gratitude, Elisabeth |
Sydney works as a music therapist and lesson teacher here at The Joy of Music. She graduated from Black Hawk College with an Associate’s in Fine Arts, then Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s in Music Therapy. She then began her internship at The Joy of Music in 2020 and began working as a board-certified music therapist at Joy of Music in 2021. She also worked as a part-time elementary music teacher alongside her music therapy work from 2021-2023. She now focuses fully on music therapy, traveling to schools, hospitals, and assisted living facilities throughout the Southeast Iowa Region. She loves working with all ages, especially children. Outside of her work, she enjoys being creative by doing art projects and DIY crafts. She also enjoys staying active by doing lots of outdoor activities in any weather, such as hiking and skiing! Fun Fact: Sydney loves learning and trying new things!
Megan joined the Joy of Music team in August 2023 as the Billing Administrator. Though she doesn't have a musical background, Megan uses her organizational and administrative skills to support The Joy of Music's mission. Megan is fortunate to have a supporting role in an organization that provides such impactful services to southeast Iowa. Megan and her husband have called Washington County home for thirteen years. Outside of work, Megan's two kids keep her schedule full, with sporting events and extracurricular activities.
Anya has worked with the Joy of Music since July of 2023, after she finished her Master's in Music Therapy at the University of Iowa. Anya studied flute performance and psychology in her undergrad, and music has always been important to her. She loves all types of music and enjoys finding different ways to explore this incredibly flexible medium - from singing at bedside in a hospice visit, writing a song with a high school student using garageband, creating a drum circle to increase family bonding, to playing ukulele with a 4-year-old. In other words, Anya works with a diverse range of clients, and absolutely loves it as this challenges and grows her as a music therapist. In her spare time, Anya enjoys reading, tending to her house plants, and going for walks with her husband, Cameron. Fun fact: She is really good at boggle, and has to hold on to this because her husband is extremely good at board games.
